Initiation 02:32
(Instrumental)
2.
At the gloaming on Walpurgis night In the forest you saw our fires alight The trees were talking, they whispered your name Darkness was falling as you walked towards the flames Oh yeah! Now you stand before the sign Yeah, you can’t believe your eyes Dancing naked in the night Won’t you join our woodland rites? Our woodland rites Christian woman, you couldn’t resist So you came closer, just to catch a glimpse What you saw, you’ll never forget In black smoke the form of Baphomet Oh yeah! Now you stand before the sign Is this all in your mind? Dancing naked in the night Won’t you join our woodland rites? Our woodland rites You wake up in the morning sun No memory of what was done And you cannot understand Why there’s blood upon your hands Now you stand before the sign Yeah, you know that it’s your time Dancing naked in the night Won’t you join our woodland rites? Our woodland rites Come, join our rites… Our woodland rites!
3.
You’ve spent your whole life in the service of God Down on your two knees to save your soul We’ve been watching, everything you do Our Lord and Master has great plans for you Sister, you’ve been told That making love’s a sin Open your heart And let the devil in Sister, can’t you see His mark upon your skin Open your heart And let the devil in Come to the last house on the left of the street In the red room our circle will meet Wear nothing more than a long black hood And a pendant of tannis root Sister, you’ve been told That making love’s a sin Open your heart And let the devil in Sister, you can try to fight You know you’ll never win Open your heart And let the devil in Let him in Let the devil in Sister, you’ve been told That making love’s a sin Open your heart And let the devil in Sister, let it go! Give yourself to him Open your heart And let the devil in Let him in Let the devil in
4.
In time you will see What’s behind the leaves Carved in bark, the devil’s mark Follow me to the Ritual Tree If you come down to old Hagley Wood Who knows what you might find? See the black candles lighting the way Through the branches entwined In time you will see What’s behind the leaves Carved in bark, the devil’s mark Follow me to the Ritual Tree Past the dark rows of oak, ash and thorn To the twisted Wych elm With its trunk hollowed out and deformed Like some gateway to Hell In time you will see What’s behind the leaves Carved in bark, the devil’s mark Follow me to the Ritual Tree She is waiting here beneath the boughs Do you dare look inside? Hand of Glory is pointing at you And there’s nowhere to hide In time you will see What’s behind the leaves Carved in bark, the devil’s mark Follow me to the Ritual Tree Who put Bella in the Wych elm? I’ll never tell
5.
Templar Dawn 05:36
Inside our tombs we dead await In endless gloom we contemplate We shall return, as prophesied So break the curse and we will rise Once we were knights In the service of Christ Now to Satan sworn On this unholy night Under the pale moonlight We will be reborn Templar dawn Templar dawn For centuries our cult has grown Now they will raise our blackened bones Cursed by the king, burned at the stake Seeking revenge, we now awake Once we were knights In the service of Christ Now to Satan sworn On this unholy night Under the pale moonlight We will be reborn Templar dawn Grand Master! Ride out! Out of the crypt, we ride again To lay waste to the world of men Our eyes are blind, our flesh decayed But still we wage our black crusade Once we were knights In the service of Christ Now to Satan sworn On this unholy night Under the pale moonlight We will be reborn Templar dawn
6.
I heard them calling At witching hour, just before the dawn I had the feeling That I had heard their song somewhere before Deep in the marrow That melody awoke something in me An ancient evil At once I knew I had to set it free From the field and the furrows And from the trees I hear the call of the coven Calling to me At the height of the summer On solstice eve I hear the call of the coven Calling to me I tried to fight it Oh how I begged, I pleaded and I prayed But it was too late In a stupor I was drawn toward the glade Somnambulating I couldn’t tell what was real or a dream There in the clearing Skyclad, they were beckoning to me From the field and the furrows And from the trees I hear the call of the coven Calling to me At the height of the summer On solstice eve I hear the call of the coven Calling to me Calling… calling… calling to me So begins the Sabbath Witches whirling up into the sky I am their captive They will force me to conceive their demon child From the field and the furrows And from the trees I hear the call of the coven Calling to me At the height of the summer On solstice eve I hear the call of the coven Calling to me
7.
May Queen 06:41
I’ve seen the birds fall from the sky I’ve seen the harvest wither and die And now I know our prayers have all been in vain We must invoke the Old Gods to bring back the rain Wake her at dawn, bring her down to the bower Robe her in white, crown her with funeral flowers Join the parade, oh follow her through fields of dust Because tonight we must bless the same soil with her blood May Queen Chosen One Daughter of the Sun May Queen Chosen One Now your time has come As dusk descends, we climb the black hill to the stones The sun sets blood red as she takes up her wicker throne Flames flicker high as our torches are put to the pyre Her reign will end, as her body is fed to the fire May Queen Chosen One Daughter of the Sun May Queen Chosen One Now your time has come
8.
Spent all winter waiting For the sun to arise Longing for isolation For the starlit skies Dreaming of the forest The whispering pines Soon as the summer comes I will step out of time Now I’m going out into the wild For once in my life I feel alive Now I find my way into the wild Here to stay until the day I die Tried to live the city life But it came to no good Tried to be civilised But I never could Never felt satisfaction Never felt at home ‘Til I went to the woods And I lived alone Now I’m going out into the wild For once in my life I feel alive Now I find my way into the wild Here to stay until the day I die No sense of self No sense of time Here I have found Some peace of mind Now I am nothing I am nobody At the edge of nowhere I am finally free Up here on the mountain I’ve got my own space Feel like I dropped out Of the human race No hope for mankind No, they’ll never learn Yeah, I’m going to sit back And watch the world burn No sense of self No sense of time Here I have found Some peace of mind Now I am nothing I am nobody At the edge of nowhere I am finally free

Woodland Rites is one of the most enjoyable albums I’ve heard recently. Because it handles themes of belief, magic, and perspectives on life with such a light and inclusive hand, it sneaks up on you. You find yourself not only rocking to its excellent music but somehow inhaling its mood. A riff rings out and you can smell the oak’s needles; a vocal line rings and an image of a cowled figure flashes in your head, a lit candle in one hand. Green Lung accomplish making both a great musical album and a great lyrical journey into their imagination. Just take their hand and away you go' Heavy Blog Is Heavy

'Just like that, Green Lung have submitted another contender for metal album of the year. Folks, we’re only just in March. I thought 2018 was a high mark year for metal, but 2019 is shaping up possibly even stronger. 10/10' Metal Temple

'The fact that Woodland Rites is the debut from Green Lung is simply incredible as the level of maturity and depth in the song writing far exceeds the band’s years.
